Reuse
What is reuse?
Reuse means to use something again. It can take the form of repairing, refurbishing, washing, or recovering used materials to make them usable either for their originally intended purpose or for a completely new function.
Reduce, then REUSE. . .
Its not just a coincidence that reuse is the second word in the hierarchy Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rebuy. Reducing waste decreases what is made in the first place and is the most environmentally friendly choice. Reuse comes next because it means that you are not using new resources to create a material. If you have to use something at all, it is best to reuse it as much as possible before disposing of it. This helps reduce the amount of natural resources, energy, and landfill space that we use.
How to Reuse
There are endless possibilities of how to reuse different materials. In addition to the suggestions listed below and the ideas that are mentioned on the Tips page, you can also refer to the Materials Database for more information. This database provides a list of materials and how to reduce, reuse, and recycle them before disposal. Ideas for reuse can be found in the box labeled Reuse under a material. Please also contact us with your own ideas for reuse.
