What can I recycle?

Tompkins County accepts a wide variety of materials for recycling. For a full list of recyclable materials, click here

General Information

Businesses have the option to use residential curbside collection (limited to two standard recycling bins of materials and flattened, stacked corrugated cardboard measuring less than 4'x4'x1.5' in height per collection), contract with a private hauler for a recycling collection service, or bring their recycling to the Recycling and Solid Waste Center (RSWC). To learn more about these options, please visit the collection page. Additionally, for information on how to prepare your recyclables, please visit the materials and preparation page.

ReBusiness Partner Program

This program is designed to help businesses increase recycling, reduce waste, and improve green purchasing practices. As recycling rates rise, businesses may be able to reduce waste collection frequency, allowing for a potential cost savings. Tompkins County also pays for selected recyclables that meet minimum quality and monthly tonnage requirements, which can mean increased revenue. For more information, call the Tompkins County Solid Waste Management Division at 273-6632.
